NEWS BRIEF – Part Two, Tosamaganga, Uwemba, Peramiho
Full of energy and anticipation, we departed Dar at 4:00 a.m. on Tuesday, July 4. By mid-morning we were blessed to see many wild animals as we drove through Mikumi National Park: zebras, elephants (at a distance) giraffes, impalas, and even a warthog.
We reached Tosamaganga about 11:30 and went first to the cemetery where three of our sisters are buried: Sr. Anna, who died from malaria on the way to her mission (not even reaching her destination alive), and Sr. Xaveria and Sr. Pia, who died of the plague in 1904.
Uwemba Our arrival in Uwemba was marked by the recent death of Sr. Marciana. None-the-less, the community gave us a hearty welcome and toured us through the health center with their expanded HIV-AIDS services and new surgery center. The infants in the orphanage were a special delight.
NEWS BRIEF – Part Three, The Ndanda Priory
We were welcomed warmly in the Bishop’s House in Tunduru to enjoy our packed lunch. That afternoon we were vibrantly welcomed by our sisters in Ndanda.
While in Lukuledi we specially remembered our M. Birgitta who was the first superior there
